Wing chair by Arnd Küchel

Dedon Papyon wing chair with matching footstool

Dedon Papyon brings the shape of a butterfly wing into Dedon garden furniture. Arnd Küchel designed one wing chair and one footstool around that idea, with two weaves of Dedon Fiber layered over each other in a warm red and orange colorway called Nectar.

About the collection

A wing chair drawn from a butterfly

Küchel, a Swiss designer and architect, looks to nature for his first ideas. For Papyon he studied the butterfly wing, which is light, flexible and built from a fine structure. He saw the same qualities in Dedon Fiber, and his first sketches grew out of that comparison.

Dedon's weavers build Papyon from two different woven patterns. Layers of Dedon Fiber sit in tight, interlocking weaves, and the effect recalls the tiny scales on a butterfly's wing. Dedon describes the technique as new for the brand. The one colorway, Nectar, mixes warm reds and oranges.

The wing chair narrows as it rises and stands on a large curved base that anchors it, both in weight and in look. The footstool follows the same language. Dedon says the pair suits indoor rooms as well as a terrace, so you can bring them into a sunroom when the season turns.

Like every woven Dedon piece, Papyon is made by hand on Cebu Island from fiber Dedon produces in northern Germany. The fiber resists chlorine, salt water and sun. Clean it with a soft brush, warm water and a mild cleanser, and keep alcohol and solvents away from the surface.
